2015 AAS-in-ASIA Taiwan Conference



The deadline for the discounted early bird registration rate has been extended to April 15, 2015.

Asia in Motion: Ideas, Institutions, Identities, the second AAS-in-Asia conference, will be held at  Academia Sinica, in Taipei, Taiwan, Monday, June 22-Wednesday, June 24, 2015.


The three-day program includes a total of 120 panels and roundtables including sessions on all parts of Asia.  Border Crossing and China and Inner Asia panels make up more than half of the program.  This is a smaller conference than the AAS Annual Conference and we expect between 700-750 people to attend.

Academia Sinica has generously offered to host a special banquet free to all registered participants on the evening of Tuesday, June 23rd.  On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 24th there will be optional tours of Academia Sinica's many museums.  Later on Wednesday afternoon, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation will host a guide tour of the National Palace Museum followed by a special buffet dinner at the museum open to all registered participants who sign up in advance. For the first time, we have created a comprehensive CEAL Annual Meeting Program schedule. The new program for the 2015 CEAL Meeting in Chicago includes details of CEAL-related activities from Monday, March 23rd through Friday, March 27th, as well as a list of vendors who support the Membership Reception to be held Wednesday night. New Head of Univ of Pittsburgh East Asian Library is Haihui Zhang

Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to share with you the good news that Haihui Zhang was appointed Head of the East Asian Library (EAL) at the University of Pittsburgh in June 2014.

Prior to this appointment Haihui was Chinese Studies Librarian at EAL since 1998. From 1993 to 1998 Haihui worked for the Chinese Rare Books Project (CRBP) of Research Libraries Group (RLG) in Princeton University. In addition to her work in the EAL Haihui maintains an active professional life outside University of Pittsburgh. In 2008, Haihui initiated a nationwide collaborative project titled "Chinese Studies in North America" resulted in a book titled 《北美中国学:学术概述与文献资源 = Chinese Studies in North America: Research and Resource》 (Chines version, 2010) published by Zhonghua Shuju in Beijing and "A Scholarly Review of Chinese Studies in North America" (English version, 2013) by Association for Asian Studies (AAS). She has been also actively involved in working groups at CEAL.

As the Head of the East Asian Library, Haihui will continue her job responsibilities as Chinese Studies Librarian. Haihui can be reached by telephone at 412-624-5652 and by email at haihuiz@pitt.edu.
