ROC National Central Library Workshop: October 2013

The National Central Library of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will conduct an “International Workshop for Professional Librarians” between October 14-19, 2013. Provision is given to overseas East Asian professional librarians to register and participate in the workshop. This 6-days workshop will be open to East Asian professional librarians of different countries. Experts and scholars are invited to give talks. Approximately 30 persons are expected to register. Besides the study program, visits to libraries and cultural sites are included.

Library Science Study in China


2012 Trip to China and LIS Study Program Opportunities

Are you interested in going to China this summer, learning about information technology, and visiting some of China's most magnificent sites?  

If you are interested, then the 2-week summer program from the information and library science school at Southern Connecticut State University may be for you. The course is following up on previous study abroad programs and opening up enrollment to graduates and students from other schools. Participants fly out of JFK airport on July 11 and return July 24. The trip cost is $3215, which includes round trip air fare from JFK, bed and breakfast at the International dormitory of a Beijing university, some additional meals and all tours, including the National Library, National Science Library, Peking University Library, as well as library and information science schools in Beijing. Cultural tours provided to the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, and The Temple of Heaven.

In addition, if you are interested in taking an ALA-approved graduate school course, you may enroll as a special graduate student at Southern Connecticut State University¹s School of Information and Library Sciences. The course number and title: ILS 635: Seminar of International & Comparative Librarianship. Not including the course, the trip and tours are also open to undergraduates and high school graduates above age 18.

Payment Schedule: This program fee does not include tuition and medical care while abroad, laundry, meals, snacks, personal items, recreational activities, souvenirs or any additional expenses that alter itinerary or
arrangements. The cost of obtaining a valid passport, visa and textbooks are also participants' responsibility. Dining is very reasonable in China; plan to spend about $15 to $25 per day on meals.

A non-refundable deposit $500 (check or payment to ³SCSU Program in China²) is due upon application. This guarantees your participation in the program and reserves your room. A second payment of $2000 is due on
May 25, 2012. The remainder of the balance ($715) is due no later than June 25, 2012.
